Orders for intelligent computing have surged, with China Mobile putting two major intelligent computing centers into operation and under construction.

On January 8, China Mobile's Intelligent Computing Center (Wuhan) opened for operation in Wuhan Guanggu Future Science and Technology City, Hubei Province.

China Mobile's Intelligent Computing Center (Wuhan) is the first regional center node in the country to be put into operation by China Mobile. Based in Wuhan and covering the three provinces of Hunan, Hubei, and Jiangxi, it has a service capacity of 1500 PFLOPS.

By the end of this year, the center will expand to 6800 PFLOPS, becoming the largest intelligent computing center in Central China.

According to the introduction, the intelligent computing center adopts a dual-plane design using both international mainstream computing power and domestic leading computing power. It provides liquid-cooled high-power cabinets, single-card top computing power, IB lossless network, and a professional tuning team, bringing extreme communication efficiency, shortest training time, and a stable operating environment for large models.

The demand for intelligent computing driven by AI applications continues to grow. China Mobile Hubei Company stated that in 2024, the company's intelligent computing business orders have seen a significant increase, with more than 100 companies pre-ordering intelligent computing services, covering industries such as autonomous driving, intelligent manufacturing, drug research and development, weather forecasting, engineering design, and language processing.

With the rise and popularization of large models, the demand for the AI market is increasing day by day, and building intelligent computing capabilities has become a top priority for many companies. Operators are also actively involved. (For the current status of intelligent computing project construction, please see 2024 Exclusive | Where are the intelligent computing centers built?)

In addition to China Mobile's Intelligent Computing Center (Wuhan), the China Mobile Intelligent Computing Center (Hohhot) project is also under construction.

Located in the Linhe District of Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, a key area within the "East Digital West Calculation" initiative, construction began in June 2023. The project introduces a variety of new technologies, including high-speed lossless networks, high-performance file storage, and liquid-cooled servers, to achieve synergy between intelligent computing and general computing resources, creating a unified technical foundation and building a unified operation system.

The China Mobile Intelligent Computing Center (Hohhot) project is expected to be launched in phases before April 2024. Upon completion, its computing power will reach 5.5 EFLOPS, making it the largest single intelligent computing center of domestic operators, providing large-scale training services to the entire network.
